AK News reported that Iraqi businessmen will invest USD 200 million in Urfa, a city in eastern Turkey with a large Kurdish population.
As per report, a delegation of 30 businessmen from all over Iraq visited Urfa and signed an agreement with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Urfa.
The Iraqis will particularly invest in the areas of construction and health. However, their engagement will not be restricted to these sectors.
Business relations between Turkey and Iraq have improved in recent years. Turkish trade with Iraq was up 67.8% in the first 3 months of this year compared with the same period in 2009. The volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached to USD 8 billion to USD 10 billion while it stood at USD 941 million in 2003.
Turkey is second only to Iran in the amount of trade done with Iraq. Turkey has been increasing its influence over the area with particular emphasis on Kurdistan where it is the main trading partner.
