Report shows lawyers manipulate PKK leader's commands
A recent police report indicates that Kurdistan Worker' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan's messages to senior PKK leaders were manipulated by his lawyers.
Turkish police last week detained dozens of lawyers who are suspected of maintaining communication between jailed PKK leader Öcalan and the PKK terrorist organization as part of a probe into the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK). Within the scope of the investigation, police found that Öcalan's lawyers had manipulated the PKK leader's messages when delivering his letters to senior PKK leaders.
A document has revealed that the latest detainees in the KCK probe are members of the KCK's “leadership committee,” who provide communication between PKK leader Öcalan and the PKK and whose names are mentioned in the KCK Contract. Most of the detainees are lawyers in the Asrın Law Office, which was established after Öcalan's capture in 1999.
Several lawyers from that office had visited Öcalan on April, 30, 2010, where the terrorist organization leader asked lawyers to tell the PKK's militant arm to “attack all Turkish security forces.” However, this message was manipulated by the lawyers and changed into “increase attacks against police.”
Experts also state that this manipulation is the reason for the PKK's numerous attacks against police in the last few months. Most of the attacks against the Turkish police are believed to be by Fehman Hüseyin of Syria, who goes by the codename Bahoz Erdal and is the mastermind behind recent PKK attacks in Turkey, including the Çukurca attack in October in which 24 Turkish security personnel were killed.
Police report shows that since the terrorist leader's lawyers manipulated his messages, there have been 108 attacks against the police. PKK members attacked police with guns, Molotov cocktails and explosives, which resulted in the death of 30 policemen, while 732 police were wounded in these attacks.
Also on Sunday, 11 individuals, who were detained in the southeastern province of Mardin on Friday in connection with the KCK probe, were sent to the Mardin prosecutor's office for interrogation. The detainees include the head of the Peace and Peace and Democracy Party's (BDP) Mardin branch, Abdullah Akikol.
Furthermore, Turkish police on Sunday, detained three suspects for being involved in terrorist organization propaganda in Ömerli, a village in Halfeti, Şanlıurfa. Ömerli is the village where terrorist leader Öcalan was born. Suspects were taken to Şanlıurfa court where they have been sent to Şanlıurfa E-type prison.
BDP leader Selahattin Demirtaş attended the opening ceremony of a park, children's park, library, bridge, educational center and some new roads constructed by the BDP's Yüksekova municipality in Hakkari. Demirtaş accused Justice and Development Party (AK Party) with jailing Kurds who stands for their individual rights.
“It is not possible to talk about justice for Kurds in this country. The government cannot even tolerate a press conference given by Kurds. The prime minister should know that we will not give up,” said Demirtaş.
Turkish police have recently stepped up operations against the KCK. The KCK investigation began in December 2009, and a large number of Kurdish politicians, including several BDP officials, have been detained in connection with the case.
The suspects stand accused of various crimes, including membership in a terrorist organization, aiding and abetting a terrorist organization and attempting to destroy the country's unity and integrity. The detainees include mayors and municipal officials from the BDP, which has said the investigation is the government's way of suppressing its politicians and denies any links between the suspects and terrorist organizations.
In the meantime, a government official called on the PKK on Sunday to lay down its weapons, telling the terrorist organization that policies that sought to assimilate Kurds have been terminated in Turkey.
